The Nahant Fire Department is a combination Fire, Rescue and EMS service. There is a combination of full-time personnel and paid-per-call (call) personnel. The full time staff consists of a Fire Chief and eight firefighters. The eight firefighters are broken up into four groups of 2 firefighters. Each group works on the following rotating schedule:
24 hours on duty, 24 hours off duty, 24 hours on duty, 120 hours off duty
This schedule arrangement provides Nahant with fire personnel coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can view our current firefighter roster here.
All of Nahant’s full time firefighters are also licensed as Emergency Medical Technicians at the Basic level (EMT-B).
The call personnel currently number 12. New members are required to successfully complete the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy Call/Volunteer Recruit Program which consists of over 250 hours of training. New members are also required to obtain/maintain First Responder/CPR Certification.
