NAHANT — Fire Chief Michael Feinberg reports that the Massachusetts state 911 system is currently experiencing intermittent interruption of service related to problems with a nationwide internet service provider. This is a national problem also impacting most of Massachusetts, including here in Nahant
As a result, residents are temporarily urged contact the police or fire department for assistance by dialing the following direct numbers:
Fire Emergencies: 781-581-1235
Police Emergencies: 781-581-1212
Motorists or those on state property/highways needing State Police assistance can also call the following State Police emergency call centers:
- Shelburne Control PSAP 413-625-8200
- New Braintree Control PSAP 508-867-1170
- Northampton Control PSAP 413-586-1508
- Framingham PSAP 508-820-2121.
Callers to 911 or affected lines may hear a fast busy signal, hear a recording saying “All circuits are busy” or something similar, or may get connected to a different emergency call center than they were expecting.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The outage may also affect the ability of emergency dispatchers to automatically determine a caller’s location. When reporting an emergency, please take note of and be ready to provide your exact location to the call taker.
